Learn to play 'We're Going To Be Friends' by The White Stripes, who have so many simple beginner friendly songs. This one is a perfect first finger picking song.
The whole songs has just 3 chords; G major C major and D major. We keep the thumb plucking just the root note of each chord and the fingers plucking a simple 8th note rhythm.
Super fun and an excellent choice for all beginner fingerstyle players. But remember, it's always a good idea to have a quick strum through the chords along to the recording before digging deeper into the details.
