Two finger picking combinations - Week 6

Course: Technique Tune Ups

In this video

Welcome to week 6 of the Technique weekly challenge!

In this video we look at picking 2 finger combinations up & down the strings, from beginner to intermediate, with a view to helping the fingers navigate those scales!

Exercise 1 - Beginner Combinations

  • In this exercise, the first finger (5th fret/blue dot) is always used in combination with which ever other finger you choose!

  • Level 1 - pick the 5th fret then 6th fret (first to second finger) one after the other, moving down the strings & all the way back to the beginning position

  • Level 3 - 5th fret to 8th fret (first to fourth finger) is a great challenge!

  • Just make sure there are no big gaps between each note & keep in mind ‘Slow, Slow, Quick!’

Exercise 2 - Intermediate Combinations

  • Similarly to exercise 1, move down the strings, picking each note of the 2 finger combination

  • Middle to little finger (2 to 4) or, higher intermediate level, ring to little finger (3 to 4)

  • For an extra challenge, move these 2 finger combinations around the neck, from the 1st fret or at the ‘dusty end’ past 12th fret!

Exercise 3 - Advanced Combinations

Here we do the same as exercises 1 and 2, but starting as low as fret 1 and moving up the fretboard as high as you can go!
