Miss a D on Beat 3 (Most common srumming pattern)

Course: Strumming Course

In this video

This is the MOST COMMON STRUMMING PATTERN EVER. Again, this is great for pop songs but is typically used for more up tempo bpms from 120bpm upwards. The important thing is to keep your hand moving the same as your normal 8th strumming. If there’s a pause at any point, it will go wrong. This can be tough but you will get it!

Pattern 9 Tie

NEW interactive TAB!

Set tempo to 80bpm (start slower if you need to), hit 'Loop', and jam along!

On mobile, double tap TAB to loop and click the 'cog' icon to set bpm.

Songs that use this pattern include;

  1. ‘Sweet Child O Mine’ by Guns n Roses

  2. Brown Eyed Girl’ by Van Morrison

  3. 'Redemption Song' by Bob Marley

TOP TIP!

If you struggle with this strumming pattern, make sure you can do pattern 6 first as the hand motion is the same!
