We'll be learning how to play Auld Lang Syne.

Key learning points

  • Perfecting chord changes between the E, A and D major chords

  • Developing knowledge of music theory: cadences

  • Further looking at the chord sheets and using them in our learning

In this great song, we have some similar themes to the other songs in this series, in that we are in the Key of A. The song begins and ends in A and it is the most common/frequent chord; this is the point that understanding a cadence becomes really important in our own playing.

If we hang on a certain chord in the key of A in a progression, it looks to resolve back to A in some form. A 'Perfect' cadence is the 5th chord that resolves to the 1st chord. You can find much more information on the kinds of cadences found in a key in Level 5 on the Beginners course.

Next Up: Song 9 - The Nutcracker Suite
