Key Learning Points
Improving chord changes between the G, C, D and briefly the E minor chord
Further reading and understanding chord sheets
Moving away from the E, A and D chords, we focus on the chords within G major. This is where we can start to become familiar with how chords relate to the 'home' or the 1st chord in a key. We may not need to completely memorise the chords in every key as we learn the positional relationships and literally the sound (cadences) between the chords.
We have an extra chord thrown in with this progression and this brief E minor chord is a great chance to challenge our chord changes.
We should look to be even more comfortable with these techniques:
Use pivot fingers - some fingers don't need to move and can act as a pivot point between chord changes.
Lift and press at the same time - by not lifting our fingers too far off the fretboard and placing them back down all at the same time, we create the foundation for really smooth chord changes.
