Become a triple threat lead player with triplets

Course: Lead Guitar Bootcamp with Sam Bell

In this video

Sam takes us further into subdivisions by looking at 8th note triplets, which is 3 notes per beat.

Lessons aims -

  • Focus on picking an even triplet within the space of one beat

  • Try accurately switching between subdivisions whilst maintaining an even feel

Exercise - Descending scale using different subdivisions

This exercise challenges synchronisation as we work through a descending scale using triplet 8th notes (3 notes per beat), then switching to straight 8th notes and finally in the last bars of the example and the last notes of the phrase, a transition to 16th notes (4 notes per beat).

A slower approach in this lesson will yield greater benefits to your playing in the long run, as this lays a solid foundation, which then leads to quick, fluid but accurate transitions between subdivisions.
