Continuing on from Lesson 11, Sam expands on the use of bends and how muscle memory can be used to produce a 'pre-bends'.

Lesson aims -

  • Using our muscle memory to be able to bend the string to a desired note before picking

Exercise - Whole Step Pre-Bends

In this exercise, 'pre-bends' focus on the release of a bend. A little like bending a string in reverse.

  • Bend the 15th fret on the high E to the 17th fret without picking, just using your muscle memory

  • While the note is bent, when picked you can hear the pitch of the 17th fret

  • Then, release back from 17th to 15th and now we hear the lower pitch of the 15th

Use your ear to pitch the notes and experiment with what feels best to reach the notes accurately. Use the ring finger, reinforced by your middle finger and first finger to bend strings with force.
