Power Chord Shapes for Acoustic

Course: Beginner Blues & Busker Chords

In this video

We are going to look at more ways we can play Power Chords otherwise known as 5 chords.

These chords sound great on Acoustic and Electric just the same and are more associated with the Rock and Blues genres; this doesn't mean you won't see them pretty much everywhere else in the songs we learn across the genres!

As we have learnt the Easy 1 finger 5 chords for the E5, A5 and D5, we can now look at the 2 or 3 finger power chord versions.

  • 2 Finger A5 - first finger on fret 5 string 6 / 3rd finger on fret 7 string 5

  • 2 Finger B5 - first finger on fret 7 string 6 / 3rd finger on fret 9 string 5

This chord is moveable all across the neck, just maintain that distance between the 2 fingers

  • 3 Finger A5 - first finger on fret 5 string 6 / 3rd finger on fret 7 string 5 / Little finger on fret 7 string 5

3 finger versions just add the little finger to the string and fret below the 3rd finger
