When in doubt - follow the chord!

Course: Advanced Arpeggios & Licks for Lead Guitar

In this video

When creating lead lines, melodies, solos or improvising on the fly, if in doubt of what notes to play, follow the chord! This is something I've heard pro guitarists and countless teachers say over the years.

My final bit of advice is a reminder that when it comes to creating lead lines, melodies, solo or improvising on the fly; when in doubt, follow the chord!

This is something I've heard pro guitarists and countless teachers say over the years. It also tend to lead to more creative and memorable lead parts when compared to just playing the same licks you always play aka being led by the fingers. Following the notes of the chord is more akin to being led by the minds imagination, which is perhaps why they tend to be more memorable.
