Mastering Made Simple

Course: Home Recording With Garageband

In this video

We discuss ‘Mastering’ our track in GarageBand, this final process makes sure the tack is a good volume and that it sounds great on different speakers. Part of my ‘Learn Home Recording With GarageBand’ Course.

In this lesson Andy gives us a basic overview of Mastering. In professional studios they have some extra tricks and tools that are applied at the mastering stage, but for this course we'll be focussing on maximising the level of the overall song.

Key points

  • The Compressor gently squashes down the peaks of the audio, and then brings the whole level up to compensate for this
  • The Limiter is like a very aggressive Compressor - when you set a level for it, it won't let any sound go higher than that level

Next Up: Limitations of GarageBand

Well done! Let's jump into the next lesson of the course.
