In this video

Learn to record vocals with a microphone. It's generally best to use a large diaphragm condenser microphone.

In this lesson Andy shows us how to record vocals. For this we'll need a microphone, and it's generally best to use a large diaphragm condenser microphone. These are generally better for recording than the dynamic microphones we use for live shows.

Key points

  • It's best to use a pop shield for recording vocals, especially with a condenser microphone
  • Choose an appropriate vocal setting on the channel - not all software packages will have these presets ready for you, so if you're using something other than GarageBand you may need to set up your compressor, EQ, reverb and any other effects yourself
  • You can edit the settings of the preset to fit the track better
