The only difference between the C major scale and the G major scale is 1 note in this case. So, by using the C major scale shape we already know, the next steps to playing the G Major scale are to...

  • Play the same C major scale shape we know

  • Then, try starting and ending the same scale on the G notes - using our chord shape to help guide us to the notes

  • Now we change the F note to an F# note by moving up to the second fret on the 3rd string rather than the 1st fret

We can use the sound of the G major chord to help make sure our scale fits and sounds correct.
