In this video
Welcome to Singing with Hannah Dorman!
In this first lesson Hannah focusses on a core element of singing - breathing correctly!
Lessons aims
- Learn where and what the purpose of your diaphragm is
- First steps into understanding how to control your breath
Exercise 1 - Test your diaphragm technique/Build breathing control
- Lay on the floor with hands placed on the stomach
- Using the diaphragm, breathe in slowly for 5 seconds (hold) and then breathe out for 5 seconds (control out breath) and so on...
Exercise 2 - Extra Breath
- Breath in using the Diaphragm (hold it...)
- Then, you can fill up with more air using the lungs
- Lastly, from collar bones and up, we can inhale again to gain that 'extra breath'
- And finally, in reverse order, practice exhaling until you are at the end where you can squeeze from the core to release the final bit of air from the diaphragm
