Welcome to the penultimate day of this 14 day bootcamp. In this lesson we learn a lead line which fits great with the previous days 12 blues in A and also touch on the idea of improvisation just with a few notes.

1 finger lead line

This lead line is just 2 notes paired together known as a ‘Double Stop’

  • Finger 1 on fret 5

  • Hold down strings 1 & 2

  • Thumb over the top of the neck for best control

The trick here is the rhythm! Play these notes on the & between Beats 1 & 2 and then again on beat 3.

1 - & - 2 - & - 3 - & - 4 - &

Improvising in A pentatonic

Using the same four notes in the previous lesson in A pentatonic: Frets 5 & 7 on strings 3 & 4. We can play these notes as simply as:

  • In scale order (3 up and 3 down for example)

  • Add pauses between notes

  • At some point, we can jump out of scale order to add something different!

Just have a go, follow your own ideas and have fun!
