Day 10 - What you NEED to know about MINOR keys

Course: 14 Day Late Beginner Bootcamp

In this video

Welcome to day 10. Time for a new jam track in the new key of A Minor using the chords A minor, C major, F major and E major.

Welcome to day 10! For this lesson we check out another new jam track in the new key of A Minor.

Day 10 chords

Our Day 10 new jam track uses the chords A minor, C major, F major and E major.

The chord progression in this jam track is in this order, and is therefore in the key of A minor. These chords are just the same as in C major too as they are related by being the relative major and minor, just like G major is to E minor as covered in week 1. The only difference will be that the first chord is either C major or A minor and this makes all the difference.

Day 10 strumming

The strumming pattern for todays jam track is really suited to these tracks around 100bpm. The pattern is 'D D D D U' with 2 whole repetitions of that equalling 1 bar.

Accenting beats 2 & 4 in this pattern really gives this strumming pattern the rhythm! Play the thicker strings on down strums to keep those parts of the strumming quieter and then aim to catch all the strings for bears 2 & 4 (thinner strings for the up strum)

Lift off the chord straight after beat 4 to make it to the next chord by beat 1 - this gives plenty of time to change chord (and is how the pros make it look effortless!)

Day 10 visual jam track in A minor

Jam along to the video below, which includes on screen chords. Try to keep going to get a clean take without any stopping if possible. Once you can do this, try playing along to the audio track, which is just below the video at the top of the page!

Next Up: Day 11 - A minor pentatonic lead line w/ 5 notes!

Well done! Let's jump into the next lesson of the course.
