Pseudo Barre Chords

Course: Improver to Intermediate

In this video

We learn about Pseudo Barre Chords, this is where we play the same chord but on different parts of the guitar i.e. with different ‘voicing’. Backing track included. Part of Andy’s Improver Guitar Course.

To understand this section, you need to know what a ‘voicing’ is. The same chord, e.g. C chord, can be played many different ways, lower or higher up the neck for example. To differentiate, we say the chords are in a different voicing. I’ve named the chords on this page ‘Pseudo barre chords’ as we are using barre chord shapes around the neck, but not actually barring. I.e. we’re not holding down more than one string with the first finger.

This is not only easier than playing regular barre chords, but doing so makes the most of the great sound of open strings with notes fretting higher up the fretboard, a classic improver technique!
