Get started improvising with the major pentatonic scale with these three licks
In this lesson, we revisit the major pentatonic scaleand then learn some simple licks to get started using this scale in a musical context.
Although many of the moves and positions will be familiar, we must use the major pentatonic in a different way than the minor pentatonic. In improvisation, they are not interchangeable. The major pentatonic should be seen as a reduced major scale, which is exactly what it is.
Remember, the start and end notes of your licks are critical to make the major pentatonic sound right!
