Adding Accents to 8th All Down Strumming

Course: Strumming Course

In this video

Learn to add 'accents' to improve the feel, groove and overall sound of your strumming.

8th all down strumming can sound a little relentless and flat. To add interest, the first thing we can do is play beats 2 and 4 louder, known as adding an ‘accent’. We want to play beats 2 and 4 louder as this is where the snare drum will play, which is the loudest part of a regular drumbeat. The accent is shown by the > symbol.
