In this bonus final lesson, Sam returns to vibrato and explains how to practice and perform the technique with more of a regimented and intentional feel.

Lessons aims -

  • Perform vibrato with clear timing and awareness of subdivisions

Exercise - Rhythmic Vibrato

This exercise is all about getting a solid feel for the rhythm when performing the vibrato. Use 16th note subdivisions (1-e-and-a-2-e-and-a...) to perform vibrato with purposeful timing. The more intention and control we put behind playing, the greater impact it has in the music.

As demonstrated in the video, the fretting hand motion is like 'turning a key' for the vibrato technique. This idea helps put motion behind the vibrato and helps with control for effective timing.
