30 minute practice routine for Level 3
As your skills improve, it's important to assess and re-asses your goals. For best progress, what you practice should then align to those goals as much as possible. That being said, here's a recommended 30 minute practice routine template. However, be sure to swap out any items for one's that work on a similar skills to better line up with your goals, particularly when it comes to songs, scales, chord changes etc.
Warm Up (5 mins)
G major scale, plus occasional practice of the C minor pentatonic and/ or C major scale as needed.
Chord changes (5 mins approx.)
1 min each. Repeat for any changes that need more work.
A major to F# minor and D major
The two E major chord variations, plus E7 chord
A major, E7 major, F# minor and D major (aka 'the four chords' in the key of A major)
Work towards being able to change between any and all of 'the four chords' chords in the key of A major, written above.
Song learning and repertoire practice (15 mins or more)
The aim is to build a small repertoire of around 5 to 10 songs to a recognisable standard.
Some of these should be short repetitive chord progressions like Twist and Shout or where you only practice the riff only like Smoke On The Water. Some others can and should have more parts or more structure, but remember any of these will take longer to learn and also require more practice to maintain
So - if you find you struggle to remember songs, stick to ones that have plenty of repetition so you can learn more songs without too much trouble.
Chord progression challenge! (5 mins or more)
The chord progression challenge from Level 2 can be repeated here, but this time using any of the chords in the key of A major - written above!
