Recording Acoustic Guitar

Course: Home Recording With Garageband

In this video

In this lesson Andy shows us how to record an Acoustic Guitar in GarageBand. This is similar to recording Electric Guitar, but we use different settings on the channel to give us a more appropriate sound for an Acoustic Guitar. Remember, a microphone will also pick up any other sounds, including computer fans, cars driving by outside, someone slamming a door somewhere else in the house, your cat knocking stuff off the shelf - basically if you can hear it in the room, so can your mic! So make sure you take care of any noises as best you can before you start recording.

Key points

  • Choose an appropriate sound preset on the channel - this time you'll want to look in the Acoustic Guitar section
  • It's generally better to record your acoustic guitar with a microphone, rather than using the built-in pickup - but you can use both together and blend them to get a great sound
