In this lesson Jarvis is playing a piece using double arpeggios in 6/8. Here we first go up the arpeggio, as in the previous lessons, but then come back down again. The 6/8 time signature gives a different feel to the 3/4 time signature in the last lesson - with 6/8 it feels like 2 pulses per bar.

Lesson aims

  • Get a feel for 6/8 time signature
  • Pay attention to playing the changing pattern in the bass
  • Learn to play the full piece

Time signatures

This piece is in 6/8 time signature. The top number shows how many beats are in a bar, and the bottom number shows the length of each of these beats. In this case there are six beats per bar (top number), and each beat is an eighth note (bottom number).
