Next Level Strumming On Ukulele

Course: Intermediate Ukulele

In this video

We take our Ukulele strumming further with more complex rhythms and ideas.

In this lesson, we are looking at how to take our Ukulele strumming further with more complex rhythms and ideas.

Lessons aims -

  • Learning different rhythms and timing feel to make our strumming more interesting

  • Understand how the off-beats are used to perform different rhythms

Exercise 1 - Swing Rhythm

Rather than playing our usual straight and very even rhythms, we can incorporate a swing rhythm using triplets. (1-and-a-2-and-a…)

This ‘feel’ and ‘bounce’ we get from a swing rhythm encapsulates the Ukulele vibe and what we expect to hear from the instrument.

Exercise 2 - Mutes

Using our muting technique with our fretting hand, by resting our fingers over the strings to stop the sound, we can practice our straight and swing rhythms with mutes.

Next Up: Ukulele Barre Chords

Well done! Let's jump into the next lesson of the course.
