Fingerstyle 06 - Inside Out picking exercise

Now we’re going to really dig in to some cool fingerstyle patterns!

To begin with, we’ll look at a short progressive series of 3 patterns. These patterns are based around an exercises called ‘Inside Out, Outside In’. This is where we start with a fairly basic pattern on the middle 4 strings, then add string 6 and then string 1 to suddenly be working all the fingers over all the strings.

This ‘Inside Out, Outside In’ was the single exercises that elevated my fingerstyle playing more than any- thing else. From drilling these patterns in the correct way for a couple of weeks, I personally found I could play other pieces that were previously beyond my playing level.

For me, this worked like magic! I truly believe and hope they will do the same for you.
