Here's how to play My Sharona by The Knack!

This version is based on (and in the same key as) the Royal blood Live lounge version, which I will feature further down this page for you to hear - it's amazing! This also make the rhythm parts easier to play and also removes the tricky guitar solos, so it perfect for learners.

This video is party of the Andy Guitar Band Program where after following the tutorial below you can jam along to a full live band with Andy in the video!

Song breakdown

N.B. We're playing this version in the key of E, as opposed to the original by the Knack which is in F sharp. We're in standard tuning, so you don't need to retune your guitar or anything :)

Riff and verses

We play the riff using the open E string and the octave E on the 7th fret of string 5. The chords A and G are played on the 'My Sharona' mini chorus in each verse.

Chorus

The chorus works up through the chords E, G, A, C and D (all played as power chords).
