Track 8a - G Cadd9 with Lead
Today we look at the first scale to learn on acoustic guitar, then how we make melodies, riffs and lead parts aka guitar solos from the notes of a scale!
A scale is like a musical alphabet. It gives us a selection of notes ordered from low pitch to high pitch from a starting note.
The scale in this lesson is the G major pentatonic scale, so G is the starting note. Pentatonic means a 5 note scale; that is 5 notes that can be repeated at higher pitches each octave.
We then turn this scale (musical alphabet) into a riff by giving the notes both rhythm and a sense of melody, taking inspiration from songs such as Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd and Redemption Song by Bob Marley, among others.
