Beginner Acoustic Jam Track 12 - Acoustic Blues. This lesson is from the Andy Guitar Beginner Guitar Course.

Welcome to this 12 Bar Blues Jam Track lesson in the Key of E major; we have 4 options of what we can play over this track from the essential chords all the way to awesome yet easy lead lines.

Visual Jam Track 1 - join in!

For the first Jam Track we can play our familiar E, A and B7 in that 12 Bar Blues form.

Visual Jam Track 2 - join in!

The power chords for this Jam Track are:

  • E5 (1 finger in open position)

  • A5 (2 finger version at fret 5)

  • B5 (2 finger version at fret 7) - Great alternative to the B7 chord!

G major pentatonic & E minor pentatonic

We then have the option to play a riff and lead lines over this E blues, all based on the G major pentatonic notes we already know. We can do this for 1 simple reason; they are the same notes!

  • Start with the G note and end with the G note, it will sound the like that G major pentatonic - G, A, B, D, E, G

  • Add 1 note to this scale, the E note (3 notes lower than the G, or open string 6)

  • Now we can play from the low E to the second to last note now of the scale we know (second fret string 4) which is an E note too

  • E to E in this order is the notes for the E minor pentatonic - E, G, A, B, D, E

  • The scales are related as they the relative major (G) and minor (E) of each other
