In this genre studies part of the intermediate course, we look at ‘Jazz’. This should help to choose which genres you wish to specialise in after doing this course.
I have done very few online Jazz tutorials. This is primarily because Jazz usually equals advanced guitar playing in a very niche style.
However, higher level guitar playing of any style is usually jazz influenced. Take a look at some of the more advanced chord names below; any song with chords like this is jazz influenced.
Don't panic just yet though! All these chords are super easy to play, and most jazz folk never think of the names, they just remember the shapes and the sound, which is what we'll be doing here too :)

Is studying Jazz essential?
Many guitarists and musicians study jazz to become a higher level player because it is a great way to study more advanced levels of chords, harmony and musicianship. This has been a huge part of my learning, but that wasn't always the case
I originally learned most of my higher level music theory and chords from film music, early 20th century swing music (love a bit of swing!) and even advanced rock solos etc, which all teach the same jazz concepts when studied.
There is never a direct road map to higher level guitar playing, it is a subjective and personal journey and this should be embraced. At a certain point, you just have to study what sounds interesting to you and capitalize on what excites you the most at any given time, which will often lead to great progress!
