Here is the best system I know of for learning the notes on the fretboard for intermediate guitar palayers.

Here is the best system I know of for learning the notes on the fretboard for intermediate guitar palayers.

It involves memorising the diagram below plus remembering four octave shapes. From there, we can work out any note on the fretboard within a few seconds or faster, which is all we'd expect at this level.

All the principals of this lesson and video a predicated on you memorising the following notes. Most should be easy, but make sure you know at least these!

Use the black fretboard below to test the concepts above for yourself and put your new fretboard knowledge to the test! If you are super unsure, you can even print and use the above diagram to begin with as it will be easier to get started.

Feel free to print the below image from your computer and test yourself multiple times till you can fill out all the natural notes i.e. no sharps or flats. This will make the notes easier to visualise, and you can practice adding in the sharps and flats at a later date. It's the naturals that are important for now.
