Country Genre Study

Course: Genre Studies

In this video

In this genre studies part of the intermediate course, we look at ‘Country’. This should help to choose which genres you wish to specialise in after doing this course.

While I'm aware that I am not the primary Country style guitar teacher on YouTube, I will say the following about what makes up the stylistic qualities of this musical genre.

  • Big cross over with general acoustic style (from Lesson 1 of this level) in the rhythm parts aka diatonic chords from the major scale

  • Flat picking in the rhythm and lead parts

  • Boom Chicca strumming

  • Rock/ Blues influenced lead lines, but much more sway towards the major scale and utilising the major 3rd

Here's my example of a country style rhythm guitar part to use as a starting point. See all my country style song tutorials here.
