04 Minor Pentatonic Scale and Phrasing

Course: Intermediate Scales

In this video

We recap over the Minor pentatonic scale and add phasing with string bending. Great for creating Blues or Rock guitar solos.

Hopefully you know how to play the minor pentatonic scale by now. If not, see this free lesson from my Beginners Course.

You may have also covered string bending before. If you haven’t then that’s fine and we’ll cover it properly here. If you have, it’s more than likely that two things are happening;

  1. You’re not bending in tune

  2. You’re not sure when and where to add string bending in your playing

This lesson will cover all these things and help make this scale more applicable to the songs and solos you perhaps would like to learn.

WARNING Only try this lesson on electric guitar. We typically do not do this kind of string bending on acoustic guitars, we slide instead to get a similar effect. Acoustic guitar strings are usually just too thick to push up far enough.

I also highly recommend thinner gauge strings (gauge 8 or 9) for those new to string bending – it will sound the same but makes everything easier!!
