Here's how to play Where Did You Sleep Last Night as performed by Nirvana on their infamous MTV Unplugged performance.
This song is also known as "In the Pines" and "My Girl", which is a traditional American folk song originating from two songs, "In the Pines" and "The Longest Train", both of whose authorship is unknown and date back to at least the 1870s. Many blues version exists of this song too.
This song has only four chords, E major, A major, G major and B major. Anyone that struggles with the B major barre chord can use the easier B7 chord as an alternative.
To play along to the Unplugged version, you'll need to tune down to Eb tuning just like Kurt did. You can learn and play this song in standard tuning, and I stay in standard tuning for all the video tutorial below.
Chord progression
||E |A G |B |E ||
Double line indicates repetition. Progression repeats for the whole song.
